East Hanover Township (07936) is located in Morris County, NJ - about 25 miles west of NYC. The community has a total area of 8.2 square miles and has approximately 3,900 housing units. Routes 10 and 280 are major arteries which pass through the community. East Hanover is proud of such major corporations as Novartis and Nabisco in addition to more than 2,100 other business entities operating in industrial parks, contemporary office complexes, and retail stores. Most homes and neighborhoods in East Hanover were constructed beginning in the 1950s. The community has a broad mixture of homes to choose from including ranches, capes, bi-levels, split levels, contemporaries, and newer center hall colonials. Some of the housing developments and neighborhoods include Oak Park Estates, Rolling Acres, Colonial Park, Forest Hills, Maple Knoll, Hanover Greens, Hanover Estates, Afton Hills, Ora Estates, Bright Estates, Silver Spring Estates, Concord Park, Parkside Hill Estates, Heritage Estates, River Oaks, Empress Estates, Edgemont Estates, and Fox Run. A Revolutionary Way Tavern, owned by Colonel Ellis Cook of the Morris County Militia, was known as the Half Way House. The Tavern derived its name from the Sussex County Farmers who stopped here en route to Newark Markets.
East Hanover is located close to Interstate 280 for an eastbound commute. Interstate 287 runs north-south through Morris County and is located a few miles to the west. The train station in Madison is a few miles south. Newark International Airport is a mere 30 minutes away.
The East Hanover School District serves public school students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The schools in the district are Frank J. Smith School (K-2), Central School (3-5), and East Hanover Middle School (6-8). Public school students in grades 9-12 attend the Hanover Park High School.
East Hanover offers a Student's Activity Club (SAC), which is sponsored by the East Hanover Recreation Department and the East Hanover Board of Education. This club offers a variety of activities and sports for children in the East Hanover School District from grades K-8 throughout the year. The East Hanover Community Swimming Pool is located in Lurker Park for all residents of East Hanover for a small fee. Lurker Park also has 5 ball fields, a basketball court, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, an ice skating/roller hockey rink, and a picnic area.
East Hanover offers highway shopping along NJ Route 10 where you will find large discount chain stores, strip malls, movie theatres, restaurants, and many other retail outlets. People come from miles around to shop in the area.
